How to read AI output as formatted Markdown

AI assistants often reply in Markdown. Where that text isn’t rendered — a note app, a plain-text field, a pasted email — you see the raw symbols. This viewer turns them into formatting.

  1. 1

    Paste or open

Paste the AI answer into the left pane, or drop in a .md file exported from an assistant. The sample above is a typical answer.

  2. 2

    Read it formatted

Headings, tables, code, lists, and math appear on the right as you paste. Use Read for a full-width view.

  3. 3

    Use it elsewhere

Choose Export → Copy Rich Text to paste into Docs, Word, or email — or download the .md, HTML, or PDF.

AI Markdown looks broken? Common causes

Paste the answer above first. If it looks right here, the problem is where you pasted it.

You see # and ** symbols

The app or document you pasted into doesn't render Markdown, so the formatting characters show as text. Paste the answer here to read it formatted, then copy rich text to move it elsewhere.

Equations show as \( ... \) or \[ ... \]

These are LaTeX delimiters. OpenAI's prompting guide recommends \( \) for inline and \[ \] for block math, and Google notes copied Gemini responses include unrendered LaTeX. This viewer renders \( \), \[ \], $ and $$ — many Markdown renderers only accept the dollar forms.

Lists or tables look wrong in another tool

Strict CommonMark renderers can be fussier than chat apps. Paste the text here to confirm it's valid, then fix spacing or table pipes in the editor.

Code blocks lose their colors or boxes

Code fences (three backticks) only turn into code blocks in tools that render Markdown. Here, fenced code is highlighted and has a copy button.

Getting Markdown out of each assistant

None of these vendors documents a “copy as Markdown” button for ordinary replies, so we don’t promise what a Copy button produces. These are the export routes their help pages do describe (checked October 11, 2026).

AssistantDocumented routeGood to know
ChatGPTSettings → Data controls → Export data → Export, then confirm. OpenAI emails a download link. This exports your whole history, not one reply. OpenAI documents that canvas could export to Markdown (.md), but its release notes say canvas is no longer offered with some current models, so it may not be available to you.
ClaudeFor documents Claude creates as artifacts: click Export and choose Word, PDF, Markdown, or Google Docs.To export everything: Settings → Privacy → Export data (web and desktop only). Anthropic's help article doesn't state the export's file format.
GeminiBelow a response: Share & export → Export to Docs. You can also ask Gemini to create a file in your prompt; Markdown is among its supported formats.Google notes that copying a response that contains LaTeX includes the unrendered LaTeX code.
Microsoft CopilotShare a response as a link via More options (…) → Share response.Microsoft documents a CSV export of your activity history, but no per-conversation Markdown export.
PerplexityUse the Export button on an answer; Perplexity's help center lists PDF, Markdown, and DOCX.We could not confirm the exact click path from Perplexity's own pages.

Keep your conversations private

Nothing is uploaded

Parsing and rendering happen in your browser tab. Your text never reaches our servers.

Autosaved locally

Your draft is kept in this browser only, so you can come back to it — and clear it any time by clearing site data.

Share only if you choose

A share link stores the document in the link itself. Don't share answers that contain private information.

Frequently asked questions

How do I read ChatGPT output as formatted Markdown?

Paste the response into the left pane of this page. Headings, bold text, lists, tables, code blocks, and math render on the right as you paste. Nothing is uploaded; it all happens in your browser.

Why does an AI answer show asterisks and hash symbols?

AI assistants commonly write in Markdown, where # marks a heading and ** marks bold. If the place you pasted the text doesn't render Markdown, you see the raw symbols. A Markdown viewer converts them to formatting.

Which Markdown does ChatGPT use?

OpenAI doesn't publish a Markdown flavor for the ChatGPT app. Typical answers use everyday Markdown — headings, lists, tables, and code fences — and OpenAI's GPT-5 prompting guide suggests \( \) and \[ \] for math. This viewer supports all of those, plus GitHub Flavored Markdown and Mermaid.

How do I copy an AI answer into Word or Google Docs with formatting?

Paste the answer here, choose Export → Copy Rich Text, and paste into Word or Docs. Headings, lists, tables, and links keep their formatting. For batch or .docx/.pdf conversion, use MDConverter.net.

How do I open a .md file from Claude or another assistant?

Drag the file onto the editor on this page, or click Open File. If an assistant exports a Markdown file, this opens it formatted without uploading it anywhere.

Does it render LaTeX math from AI answers?

Yes. This page renders \( ... \), \[ ... \], $...$ and $$...$$ with KaTeX. The GitHub Markdown preview sticks to GitHub's own dollar syntax, because that is what GitHub renders.

Does it work with Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, and DeepSeek?

Yes — it renders any Markdown text, whichever assistant wrote it. Our export notes above only cover the assistants whose help pages document an export.

Is my conversation private?

Yes. Rendering happens in your browser, nothing is sent to our servers, and your draft is autosaved only in your own browser.
